The other day I was ransack the kitchen, try to find the bottles and breastpump for my friend Sham. Then at the deep of the storage found 12 pieces of pacifiers! and 8 training cups! Gee…there was about RM300 for all the stuffs.
Why 12 pieces of pacifiers? When the girls about 2-3 months old, they don’t sleep well at night, out o desparation, and also my mom and mother-in-law nagging, we gave in to pacifier. But our baby just too clever to accept the pacifier–there is nothing can replace mommy’s boob. So we tried the flat silicon, cannot. Round silicon? No. Flat rubber? Nop. Round rubber? Don’t want. Short flat silicon? Piew! Long rubber? No, no, no, no, no! Or not work out.
And 8 training cups! I read too much baby book and baby magazine, influenced by the advertisment, and also the “advice” given by experts, let the 4 months old start using the training cup to drink, otherwise they will hanging with the bottle for ages, and old habit hard to change. So…this panic mommy go shopping look for training cup. ended up with 4 different kind of training cup, with spout or straw, nothing work, the most expensive cost RM20/pc., and I bought two!
Hubby been nagging me about this training cup fuss, told me we grown up without using one of this cup, and we don’t hang around the bottle also. But left ear in right ear out. haha…if hubby happen to read this, he will laugh…told you so…
Training cup, training spoon, training pant, training potty, crawling training mat, walker(train to walk), now even more terror–train to sit, with a newly develop chair etc.. Make one round in the baby department, you will find all this products in variety of designs and packaging, hanging or placing on the shelf to attract you come over have a closer look.
Some of it very simple just few line of product description, assume you know how to use it by the baby book you have read. In the baby book, the baby/child care experts and professionals wrote how important some garget is to your baby’s developement. Or some of the product come with little booklet, not only tell you how the product to be use, also some “advice” from experts or profesionals to tell you how important this product to your baby/child, seems like without this product’s help, your baby/child might not able to learn that particular skill, or eventho if they learnt they might not develope properly. Whao! sounds so serious, add it to the shopping list go get it as soon as possible.
So the modern new mother stroll around the baby department try to find the best garget for her baby, being toll by the products merry-go-round don’t know which one to choose. After paying for the choosen-one product, found it not really work out as it promised, thought she might have got a “wrong” brand, may be the other brand work better, let go get another brand on the next shopping. Instead of really use her brain to think carefully and wisely–aren’t the baby not going to learning a new skill or stop develope if without all this garget?
aren’t the baby not going to drink from cup if we didn’t buy them a traning cup?
aren’t the baby not going to put th food in the mouth by themself if we give them a normal spoon, instead of training spoon?
will the kid not going to learn that plate not suppose to being lift up when dining, if we didn’t get them a plate with suction base?
May be our baby might not know how to pee or poo properly if we don’t get them a potty with cute pictures, or even music.
Think back to our parent’s time, how our parent raised us? non of above garget.
Don’t you feel humiliating that your perfectly normal baby need to use a training spoon that made to a “L” shape, so your baby can get the food into his mouth without much fuss? what happen if next time you give him a normal spoon?
If we let our little one pee or poo in the normal toilet seat, they will not refuse to pee in the public toilet. But some parents might think they are the king and queen, so their kids being raise like a prince or princess, public toilet are not good for them, the don’t even know how to squat, so have to drag along a portable potty!
The walker have been told by the doctors and nurses again and again–it is dangerious, more than half of the home accident in baby are caused by the walker. But it is just so convenient to drop the baby in and free our hand, and also the baby use walker will learn to walk without crawling. The parent defence. Yah, maybe next time they can come out something to make the baby straight away from laying on the bed to fly in the sky.
With all this garget, the babies not need to learn anymore, they just need to being “made” with all this products. Made them crawl by using the crawling bench right after they born. Made them read by flashing the cards in front of them since born. Made them sit by the age of 3-4 months by force them to sit in a special made chair. Made them mad by input all this ready made skill for them.
