Baby Shower

Three year ago…
Friend: “Wei, I will going to buy something for you as a baby shower gift, so? what you want?”
Soon-to-be-Twinsmom: “Baby shower mah buy me baby shower stuff lar, like baby shampoo, baby lotion, baby body shampoo lor, need to ask me meh?”
Friend: “No lar, baby shower is a event or a kind of like party held days before you baby arrive, then your friends all buy baby stuff for you wan.?”
STB Twinsmom: “Oh…I see…why so funny wan, baby not yet come out want to shower liao, should call mom-to-be shower mah.”
Friend: “What? you don’t know what is baby shower meh?”
STB Twinsmom: “Gua Cina Ah Soh where got know this kind of thing.”
Friend: “So, now you know the concept lar har, what you need?”
STB Twinsmom: “Emm…I don’t know…seems like i got a lot of things I need for the babies.”
Friend: “Think of the most priority stuff, like milk powder, diapers, cloths etc…all this you buy already?”
STB Twinsmom: “No milk powder hor, I want to breastfeed the babies.”
Friend: “Then ah, I buy you the disposable diapers, OK? you will need a lot of it, infant poo a lot, and you will have double poo some more.”
STB Twinsmom: “Oh well, diapers should be OK, but I need infant car seat, cot, baby monitor yada yada yada as well.”
Friend: “OK, then I go tell others see who get you those heavy weight stuff.”
STB Twinsmom: “Wait, I tell you what, I know what I need most already–I need money, shower me with money!!!”

FYI I really got a lot disposable diapers from my friends, everyone who came to visit me all hand me two big pack of disposable diapers, and even after six months my #4 BIL and SIL still brought us disposable diapers whenever they came visit us.
And also load of baby shampoo, body shampoo, lotion, bay powder, cloth nappy etc, which last for 1 1/2 years.
Actually I dunno what is baby shower also kekeke. Today I learn something new
That’s why we muslims believe that every baby/child comes with his/her own ‘rezeki’!

After having Amira, I oso know that … no need to buy cute cute stuff like toys etc for babies … diapers and such will help parents a long way …..
ya, i learnt that 2 yrs ago when i was in the USA. the US ppl realy prepare a List for their friends “Na, you all go to buy these staff for us la”
but it still sounds wired for me… how can u tell ppl to buy things for u leh??
hehee..i really told friends & relative shower me with money wor..hahaa…like tat can save alot unnessacary thing mah…just buy wat i wan lor…good lah

pompit, yah, being 1st time parent everything also want new and nice, but then 2nd come only want the bare neccesities.
Lockee, chinese people more subtle mah, want people buy something also have to ask someone else pass the message around hahaha…but guess baby shower concept is good also lar, provided our friends willing to attend the party lar, let say nex time Junior say held a baby shower party wor will you go?

Until now i just know this new word. Very ‘pai seh’ ask ppl buy this buy that, if ppl ask then i mar tell lor if not dun have such a tick face to ask ppl buy
