无聊小站: Coke鸡翅膀

Nick got this Coca-cola chicken recipe, sound so interesting, come come let try it out. I translate it to English liao.

Drop by his blog if you want the Chinese version.

Ingredient :
Coca-cola (Nick prefer coca-cola), chicken wings (amount depend on individual), a bit of oil.

Procedure :
Slightly make a few cut on the chicken wing, so the sauce can penetrate to the meat.

2. Deep fried the chicken wings till slightly brown.

3. Discard the oil (or for other usage).

4. Put the chicken in the wok.

5. Put the coca-cola (once again, have to use coca-cola) pour into the wok, cover the chicken wings.

6. High heat to boil the coke for 10 - 15 minutes.

7. Low heat to cook for about one hour (twinsmom add: One hour? and call it simple?).

8. Wait till the sauce turn thicker.

9. The sauce have to be thicken, if after one hour it still not thicken, high heat to fasten the thickness.

10. OK, can eat now.

Remark:
1. If you really really very lazy, can skip the (2) and (3).

2. Have to eat with rice, because the sauce very sweet.

3. Eat after it get cool more tastier (ang-mo cooked already store it in the fridge, as a dessert(:tmq:).

4. Before cook this dish, you have to put away the “Coke can’t cook”’s thought.

5. In the beginning of cooking this dish, you will feel eww… :tmgreen: (if you not put away the above thought).

this recipe is made common by Chinese from China, really, not so much of an ang-mo recipe. I know you can get such recipes from english websites, but throughout my stay in North America, I haven’t come across any angmo or cooking show that would cook chicken wings this way. But it is definite that most Chinese (from China) in overseas would love to cook this dish as it is relatively an easy dish to cook.

In my opinion, you may add a few slices of garlic to add more aroma. If top with scallions as garnish would be a nice touch too.

Oh, also, it really is crucial to use the brand ‘Coca-cola’’s cola. Don’t use other brand as the taste won’t be as good. It really is nothing weird to combine cola into cooking, and I can assure you that it tastes darn good. And the caramel from Cola would add a perfect glaze to your chicken wings.

I heard from a Philipine friend that they would use Sprite instead of Cola, this I’m not sure. Someone may try it and report back!

Just saw on astro channel 11 ’surfing the menu’ the cook also use coke to make BBQ pork. Looks like those black, sticky sweet char siu. Yummy! anyone know where to find this type of char siu, rather than the usual red colour ones, in KL/PJ?

I have seen this dish in hawker center before. However, not many people is interested to try with. :)

Even if I am to make one, I prefer chicken breast instead. Chicken wings not enough meat, no kick.

Should sell the recipe to KFC instead.

    “Kentucky-Coke Stew Chicken (KCSC)”….lol

Kat, to make the pork black instead of red, use meltose (mak nga) and honey. But if no meltose I think the result also not bad. because last time youngest BIL and wife have the best BBQ recipe, they use honey on the last stae of BBQ, put too early will burn the chicken.
    :b1:
Jason, eat chicken breast wouldn’t put on weight easily one, what happen to you hehehe…
    :b2:
PS, Then the whole KFC cocept have to change liao …may be you open one?

char siu - just marinade with sugar and siyau - like three big tablespoon sugar and siyau to cover two deboned chicken thigh - for at least half a day and low heat panfry till done. Everybody loves it, including my mil and thats rare. original recipe from a very savvy neighbour who enjoys treating her family with her own improvised healthy but tasty cooking.

Coke chicken, fry unmarinated chicken is it?
