I burnt my beloved La Gourmet pot :tmsad:
All because we brought the girls to playground for about half an hour.
I thought since we not going out, so mah boil some red bean soup lor, I craved for it leh, boil with big sagu very nice wor.
so I check on the fire few times liao, everything OK.
But then later twinsdad suggest bring the girls to playground, that time I totally forgot I have a pot of red bean soup on the stove, so…OK lor… we went.
After 20 minutes in the playground near by our house, we went to the enar by mamak have tea.
When we reach home, I smell the burn, only then I remember my beloved red bean soup in my beloved La Gourmet pot :tmroll:
I rush to the kitchen (why I rush leh? rush also no use lor), the red bean all on the stove and the cement table, starting dripping on the floor.
The pot… *sigh*… what a sorry state.
I open the cover, all stick at the bottom, the red bean and the sagu.
and worst was the sagu very glue like, so the fluid around the stove all very sticky, and hot, cannot be remove ASAP, have to wait for it to cool down.
And guess what? Twinsdad has totally no idea the red bean was burnt, he asked me smell something or not? like someone fry peanut!
anyway…in short, took me 45 minutes to clean up the mess.
And the pot? like this lor–

still with the red bean sticking inside.

Just now after scraped the red bean, it still left a black burnt at the bottom.
E-mailed with ShiauLin, she said use the Amway dish wash can help wor, but my SIL#1 wouldn’t be around during this weekend, guess the pot just has to wait lor.
Anyone got any others idea?

aiyoo…so tai wok, the pot become pau ching tien liao!!! Hmm..maybe dip in water overnite with some detergent next day can come off easily?
alamak…!! cham lor…a expensive pot ler…!!
this show aging again!!!
I ask my mum whether her Buffalo pot still want anot? Don’t want, I give to you lah~!
oh…the black stains will clear one..
after you use for some time…but clear to where? most prob in the next cooked foods loh..
Aiyo.. you really leh.. very forgetful. Next time boil red bean soup write big big on your palm!
See your pot in such a sorry state very ker-lian also. Hopefully the Amway detergent wiill help. Worse case, buy new pot. This time better buy cheap cheap one loh.
keke… was waiting for u to show me the 黑锅
hmm… heard this tip before if pot got burnt, use the pot to boil **water + salt**. have to boil how long i don’t know but maybe u can try see.
**Jazzmint**,…darker than bao-ching-tien. I soaked it for two night liao, still very hard to scrape, wait for tomorrow see how lor.
:b1:
**Milly**, you no good lar, always say I old *sob sob*.
:b2:
**Jason**, wah…借花敬佛?
:b3:
**Earthtone**, eww… you know what? 我得到阿妈的真传。
:b4:
**Zara’s mum**, cannot buy cheap cheap wan, buy cheap cheap wan I will burnt more :P.
:b5:
**ShiauLin**, what happen if I forgot to off the fire when I boil the water and salt together, again?
Nothing will happen, but if I am not mistaken; with reference to physics/chemistry, the water will evaporate and leave the salt behind. So, you get back your own salt.
But if you continue to boil salt, maybe it will melt in Natrium and Cloride; which I think is the 2 materials of salt.
walau! kena teruk huh? but at least you are lucky you did not get gas leak or get the house on fire lah… just write a note somewhere or put an alarm clock in the kitchen lah
p/s: this Jason promoted to physics professor liao recently?
hehe… jason explain liao so no need to worry loh, try it and see. if work then let me know huh, next time (touch ur woodhead) if this happen to me then i know what to do liao
wah, the pot burnt till so dark! But lucky also only the pot was burnt!
Next time use claypot, easier to clean.
when you boil the salt water I think better take one stool and sit there and watch until the end.
chor dang zai..heehee..
Maybe you can try use slow cooker to cook next time.. no need to ‘jaga api’:Þ
Luckily didnt burn your house ler just the pot. Next time better set alarm cause i also very forgetful so i set the alarm to remine me i boil the water.
Use slow cooker like J said lar very easy n no need takecare.
**Jason**, I thought you are IT geek? know chemistry some more?
:b1:
**Egghead**, 这次来真的:P, darker than my face liao.
alarm clock? then I need to *remember* to set it leh.
:b2:
**Shiaulin**, wander put some clorox and cook don’t know how leh, will explode or not?
:b3:
**Jefferene**, Ya lor, thanks goodness only the pot, if the kitchen burn… *cham lor*…
:b4:
**Earthtone**, I afraid I forgot why I sit there ..
:b5:
**J**, ya lor…I usually use slow cooker wan, but that day thought I am at home not going out mah, can *jaga api* mah…mana tahu…
:b6:
**1+2mom**, I actually did set the alarm on the oven, but too bad I gone out liao, so the alarm can never been heard.
hey don’t lar! clorox poisoning wan leh… try add salt in water bring to boil lar, salt at least eatable mah
nah, i suggest only huh, cos my sis tried this b4 BUT i forgot she success anot
Jason said no problem wan if over cook the salt water, so if anything happen u go cari him lar
aiyoh really BLACK leh…
that’s y i do not like to use that to boil red bean…hey i like red bean soup too!!!
i always recommend slow cooker….
write something on palm no use one lah, write on the forehead lah “正在褒红豆,提醒我”
哈哈哈
Fastest solution, buy a new pot!! I burn my non stick pan also. Better not use the pot, even if some of the black stuff come out, there will be black stuff, not sure it will cause cancer.
是不是叫老猫烧须?ekekeke….
ok it makes lot of sense, too red will turn black
maybe to help it, can cook ‘hug loh mei’. aya! you call me then I can turn off for you ma….
Can try to use salt or sugar (forgot which one) to scratch the black stuff on stove. It works, i saw this solution from Astro last time.
from the website, see whether it works:
How to Treat Burned Pots and Pans.
The risotto is nearly done, then the phone rings and the next thing you know, you’ve got a mess to clean. Scorched foods can leave stubborn spots in pots and pans that no amount of elbow grease can remove. But just a few essentials in your pantry will help restore your pans to practically new.
Steps:
1. Wash away as much of the food as possible, using cold water for eggs, chocolate and starch-based foods.
2. Fill the pot with water. Add 1 to 2 tsp. dishwashing liquid and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes, then cover the pot, turn off the heat and leave the pot to soak for 30 minutes.
3. With a wooden spoon, scrape away as much of the burned food as possible. Rinse well.
4. If burned areas still remain, cover them completely with a generous amount of baking soda. Drizzle in just enough water to create a thick paste, smearing the paste up the sides of the pot if needed. Set aside for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
5. Without rinsing the pot, add 3 parts water to 1 part distilled vinegar to cover the burned food by at least 2 inches (5 cm). Boil for 10 minutes and then leave overnight.
6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 as needed.
Overall Tips:
1.Avoid using steel wool or abrasive cleansers on polished metal. They can create scratches that will allow food to stick and burn even more easily.
2.Leaving baking soda on aluminum pans for longer than 1 hour can cause pitting, or dark spots where the alkaline compounds react with the aluminum surface.
=> try with baking soda,maybe it’ll work.
after reading comments from multiple websites from the internet, I have concluded that using baking soda and hot water maybe a feasible approach to solve your problem. maybe using salt just isn’t as powerful this time. do give baking soda a try.
**ShiauLin**, kidding only lar ..you thought I wash cloth meh :P. I am going to try Greenapple’s suggestion liao — baking soda.

:b1:
**Leecs**, have to write in English leh, Twinsdad can’t read Chinese, so I write “remind my head, I boil red bean! ”…siao…
:b2:
**Michelle**, will try and see can clean it or not lor, if really cannot, still can use it for boil dirty cloth mah, the pot got sentimental value wor.
:b3:
**cming**, ha lor… 我的脸已经早早烧到没有须了啰…*可怜,可怜*
:b4:
**Bridgette**, call you? I can remember baru can call you mah, I don’t even have a clue until I got home leh.
:b5:
**Huisai**, I tried liao, it came off a bit, but still quite a lot leh, will try baking soda tomorrow.
:b6:
**Greenapple**, *boohoohoo*…so touching, you even search the net for me, thank you so much.
I will try it out tomorrow, then I show you the pot again OK?
if all else fail, try vinegar. hopefully baking soda will work.
aiyoo… reading this post reminds me of my pot of Barley water. I just went to check it. Luckily I remember on time, if not it will end up like yours. Thanks! hope your pot is okay now.
**greenapple**, I repeated the step twice, it came off a bit, I guess need to repeat few more times :P.
:b1:
**Allyfeel**, my pot still not OK leh, print out my pot’s picture, stick it infront of your PC …
