Monster Gnocchi (Gnocchi with bacon chip in spinach sauce)
Have been thinking of make this pasta quite some time, but just too lazy, from the magazine it seems so many steps and process.
But at last I did, why? few days of stiff neck, I decided to do something to distract myself from the pain, and it did. Plus in the end I had a nice gnocchi with bacon chip in spinach sauce as a reward, neck pain? what neck pain?
Emm… sorry, I kind of estimate the amount of the ingredient, again. I got the recipe, but I forgot it was from which page and which magazine, and I afraid by the time I found it, I might have lose the mood to make it, so… just roughly guess the amount.
>> 1st step — steam the potato, about three pieces of the size of my girls’ fist.

>> 2nd step — mashed the steamed potato, and mix with the flour, add a little bit of salt.

you see the mixture a bit green? I added a little bit of blended spinach in.
>> 3rd step — mix it well to a dough, add more flour if the dough still too moist.

>> 4th step — rolled it, press it and cut it into small cube.

>> 5th step — roll the cube into ball, like making tang-yuan. Then press each one with index finger, made a dimple on it.

Don’t forget to sprinkle some flour on the dough, to avoid each stick together.
Frozen half of the gnocchi.

>> 6th step — prepare the chop bacon, chop garlic, and some cheddar (or parmasen cheese will be better, but I don’t have any in my fridge). few table spoons of thickened cream, and 1 table spoon of yogurt.

and for the sauce, I blended few bunches spinach earlier.

The looks not very appealing.
>> 7th step — boil water, add a bit of salt in the water, cook the gnocchi, see the gnocchi floating means it is cooked. scoop the cooked gnocchi, mix a little bit of oil to avoid it stick together, place it in the plate.
>> 8th step — heat some oil in the wok, fry the bacon chip still crispy, set aside. use the same wok and oil brown the chop garlic, pour in the blended spinach, add a little bit of salt to season, cook for two minutes, add in the cream, if want the sauce more thicker, add more cream. after three minutes, off the heat, add in the yogurt, stir a little bit, and pour the sauce on the gnocchi, sprinkle the cheese on the sauce, and add the fried crispy bacon on it, done.

>> Final step — since the looks not so appealing to kids, have to trick the girls to eat the green colour gnocchi. After they got a taste of it, they love it.
Me? oh, no problm, I simply love it, I love spinach anyway, so I just love it. Twinsdad? oh, I didn’t cook this for him, he doesn’t like pasta, so… skip.
Warning — it is very filling, the girls each of them took about 20 pieces, and said enough, for me, I took about 40 pieces, also enough. one piece about the size of 10mm diameter.
p/s: jeez…. took me one whole day to write a post.

but looks good though for me..
the spinach boiled first before you blend?
You also take a lot of time to cook huh? What do your girls do when you are in the kitchen?

看起来很算客家人的‘算盘子’咧。你有吃过吗?当然,算盘子用的是芋头,不是马铃薯。
确实很多功夫。我很久没有农这样很大工程的食物了。搞不好下一次你要试一下算盘子,满好玩的。
可以参考kuali.com的recipe。http://kuali.com/recipes/viewrecipe.asp?r=1110
Green stuff? hrmm…
看起来不难弄… 可能下一次有空时会试一试。
With a stiff neck, still can cook and sit down to blog about it the whole day? Really ‘fuk jor lei lor’, Superwoman.
Hmmm… err… I don’t find the dish appealing with the greeny, greeny stuff and looks like a ‘piat’ of … eerrr … (hee hee, soli soli).
Oh wow, this one looks so appealing. Wonder if my son like it. But I’m drooling already. I love spinach!
It’s okay to use longer time to write such a nice post. I will definately try this out.
Thanks!
>> Leecs, Mr. Potato? in the “Toy Story”? hehehe…
>> 青苹果,是很像算盘子 :D,想做算盘子一些时候了,可是我的手一接触芋头的皮就氧,所以很久都没有动手。看看超市有没有切便的,那就方便了。以前大人餐厅有外卖部,就有卖算盘子,现在都没有了。
>> Michelle, hehehe… what green stuff you think?
>> DG, 不会难,第一次有点乱,我看下一次会很顺手 :D.
>> Tracy, where got whole day? I type one paragraph and rest for half an hour leh, that was why used one whole day to wrote a post.
hahaha… “piat” ah? wait until I use blended mushroom to make the sauce lagi “piat” hehehe…
>> AllyFeel, my girls having spinach since they start solid, I used to blended the spinach and store for them, they use to the taste. Guess a lot of kids love spinach, because of Popaye, un least they never see the cartoon.
