While give the girls some pastry…
:mh2:: “姐啊,还要不要?” (Jie, want some more?)
:isa:: “Coming, coming…”
:mn:: “不要讲 coming,讲 ‘来了’。” (don’t say ‘coming’, say ‘lai2 le4′)
Isabelle stand in front of me, before I give her the pastry, I tell her to say “来了(lai2 le4)”.
:mn:: “讲,‘我来了’。” (say, ‘wo3 lai2 le4′)
:isa:: “I 来了 already lor?!”
:s:
:anna:: “Ah… ah… wen2 zi3, wen2 zi3, daddy, beat the wen2 zi3.”
:td:: “Hah? what wen2 zi3?”
:anna:: “Neh… wen2 zi3…”
:td:: “Lo-por… what is wen2 zi3?”
:mstare:: “Mosquito.”
:td:: “Ooh…”

That’s the fun thing living in a multi-cultural and multi-ligual world!! Love it!

I want to teach my girl Mandarin too but don’t know how to start! She is so use to Cantonese!
LOL…your hubby dunno mandarin hah?? Next time the girls scold him, he also not understand..hehehe

Good la you teaching the girls how to speak Chinese.. I think I really must start with Zara liao.
“I lai le already lor” so cute, Isabelle was correct mar.

I’m oso starting to speak my half-past-six Mandarin with Destinee and sometimes she’ll say “Mommy, Jiang Hua Yue”. When I ‘jiang hua yue’, she’ll stare at me and say ‘huh, lei gong mud yeah, ngo ng chi wor” *mouth open and eyes rolling*
fuiyoh…!!
at least she can say lar…finally want to speak mandarin!!
Maybe a book like ‘Mandarin for Idiots’ is a good idea for your hubby … haha. Don’t mean to be sarcastic, but maybe it’s time to pick up some basic Mandarin …
You’ll lose nothing learning another language. Have fun!
Really a fun version of “Lost in Translation”. Haha.
>> Egghead, yah… that is fun, to hear them speak more than one language, wait unitl they speak cantonese hahaha… teach them how to scold people hahaha…
>> Jefferene, but I was amaze to hear your YeeChing say: “ng moi, ng moi.” during the blogger meet.
>> Jesslyn, hehehe… he can understand, but when pick out the words one by one, he will lost.
>> Zara’s Mum, no worry wan, my niece and nephew learn Mandarin when they start going to primary, and they can speak well in one year! amazing.
>>
JesslynTracy, hahaha… jar-dou… your Destinee also very cunning.>> Milly, ya lor, can say 冲凉,扫地,洗手,毛巾,抹地… so they just join those chinese words with english, like “mommy, I 洗手 already.”
>> Greenapple, hahaha… he actually can understand, when ever I speak Mandarin to my family, and friends, he know, but he just couldn’t speak, even though he did speak, it is like ang-mo speaking mandarin, very funny. In our family we have a lot of “lost in translation” moment.
hehe…i think belles will understand their papa r ‘banana’ very soon liao…
So cute. I think my hubby is going to have a headache soon. I’ll be teaching Keith dialects the he can’t understand.

Aiyo, Destinee’s mommy is Tracy and not Jesslyn lar. Jesslyn’s daughters are Wien and Lyon. U sudah mabuk ar?
Kekeke, ya lor, ‘jar dou’, me and my half-past-six Mandarin. She didn’t understand what I was trying to say to her. But it’s definitely not my Mandarin cos I can speak Mandarin but only it’s not fluently.

.
>> Sabrina, hah? what dialect you going to teach Keith?
>> Greenapple, hahaha… how cool, it even come with CD.
