Cooking Time

Since I post a few dishes I had cooked, it seems like I am very good in cooking? hehehe… actually you all got con.

I just told Egghead the other day, I hate cooking, I always dont’ know what to cook. I have a few usual dishes I cook almost few times a week, for example –
>> fry fish ro chicken, just season with McCormick seasoning and fry it.
>> stir fry chicken or pork, marinate the chicken strip with soy sauce and a bit of starch then stir fry.
>> fry luncheon meat, egg, bacon.
>> stir fry sawi, bak choy, spanich, kai-lan etc green veggies with just salt and garlic.

This are what I usually cook for lunch or dinner, simple, fast, easy.

Of course I got bore to just cook this few dishes, so once a while I will try to cook something different to break the boredom, or curi-tulang ask Twinsdad take-out.

I bought quite a lot food mag recently, very pathatic, before married read Cleo, after married read Female, Her World. After have kids read Women Weekly, and usually flip to the end look at the recipe first.

I do wish MIL can still cook for us :mp:

But since FIL passed away, MIL has to go to BIL’s house to look after the maid kids, they have the maid there, but they just don’t feel safe to let the maid be alone with the kids, since then we have to take care of our lunch and dinner ourselves.

See? there is a reason I stick to simple cooking, because cooking with two then-18-months-old at home was a tough challenge; I either cook during their naptime, or not cook at all. They need me to be around within their sight, so I moved the safety gate from the corridor to the kitchen door, let them sit or play outside the safety gate, so I can cook in peace (not always in peace though).

I experienced a lot of the time they screaming, yelling, and crying while I cooking, I just repeat and repeat to them that mommy need to cook, otherwise daddy will be hungry, mei mei and jie jie will get hungry too.

After a while they start learning that mommy have to cook, no matter how they not happy about it.

By the time they reach 2, when I came out from the kitchen I was either greeted by the painting on the wall and the sofa; two geisha playing with the powder; lotion on the floor; tissue all over or even soy sauce on the bed. But things have changed since the girls were 3 years old, everything seems a lot easier then before, they can play with each other or watch TV in the living room, and out grown the painting everywhere stage, the only interruption was when they fighting for toys.

Now they are almost 3 ½, they enjoy good food, so they certainly know what they will get if leave me to cook in peace. Still I would not spend a very long hour in the kitchen; sneak out to peek on them is necessary, because they might climb the sofa from the back, or chair and table.

I do not keep a lot of spices and condiments in my kitchen and fridge, to avoid expired and wastage. I have the very basic cooking condiments like oil, salt, pepper, and of course, some McCormick seasoning helps a lot. Moreover, try to get all the yogurt, cream, and cheese in small quantity, no matter how much cheaper it can get if buy in bulk.

I used to stir-fry a lot, not much steam food though; ended up steam until the water all dried. Because of so many times I burnt the food, I like to use slow cooker and oven, preparation time is short, and food still tasty.

Anyway… I failed quite a number of times, some of it I managed to take picture and blog about it, but most of the time failed already no mood to talk about it. So everyone see the smartest side of me :mgrin:

But still, again, if someone can cook for me, that will be the best.

hey, share with u my favourite 懒人 dish. very simple nia almost like ur stir fry chicken/pork.

    1. marinate the meat with soy sauce and a bit of starch.

    2. cop ginger

    3. break 1 or 2 eggs and blend it, fry it (煎蛋)then set aside.

    4. fry the ginger until fragrant, add in the meat then stir fry.

    5. when meat about 75% cook, pour in the fried egg stir fry for short while then add water.

    6. let it cook until meat is tender.

    7. add little bit of starch-water. stir fry and ready to be served.

easy like one-ting dish, my Xuan loves it very much! ;)

yuan lai ru ci…..haha!! nola, you are so multi-talented liao:can cook not eat outside, can draw not buy comic, can takecare kids not employ maid, can be locked outside corridor not inside house,etc..Nowadays, around 7 out of 10 women hate cooking or dont know how to cook. Hypertension is hereditary however cooking skill is not. Traditonal cooking will vanish soon.

    share wif u easy dish.

get some whole chicken legs, wash then steam it for 15 minutes (or until cook hehehehe). Then simply fried some shallots/onions, dish it up together with the oil, then add kicap and thick kicap. This is the sauce.
The chicken simply serve, or u can chop it up.

I find dat u are a multi-talented lady. Don’t be so humble lar.

U don’t like cooking but u still can cook so many delicous dishes. I love to cook but compared to u, I really must hide my head inside a hole.

You must be comparing yourself with restaurant sifu..if food don’t turn out like restaurant banquet, then cannot cook!! Die-lah…almost everyone cannot cook-lor!! :lol

Homecooked food no matter how simple will always taste better than outside food. My most simple dish? Fried egg topped with oyster sauce, spring onion and pepper (ala Kylie Kwong). Cook 10 eggs also not enough!

    >> Tom, -_-”"… never know locked outside the house need talent.

Hypertension is hereditary however cooking skill is not — so true. OK, I will teach my girls to cook :D.

    >> Contented mum, I think there will be sometime for you to cook liao lor, with a toddler under 18 months really very difficult to cook, moreover, you are expecting now, lagi susah. anyway, I used to ta-bao a lot, everyday wan-tan mee, or chicken rice :P.

    >> Allyfeel, Shiaulin, no wander now a day so many cook book in the bookstore , i afraid if i really come out with a cook book, most likely will bury in the bookstore as well … might as well share it here ;).
nvm, shiaulin, next time i photostat a book and sign for you :P.

    >> Papi, I saw this recipe from your site last year, I tried it out many times already :D, it is really great, thanks a lot.

    >> Zara’s mama, have to be humble, always admit I am a empty glass, then baru got people pour water to me mah :P.

I used to open can food and eat maggie mee :P, and still do, but swift to Preggo pasta sauce :D, nice….
