Recently I read about Egghead going back to hometown for Qing-Ming shao-mu 扫墓, and some mothers were surprised that he brought along Little Skywalker too, because some Chinese believe children have the eyes to see third kind — ghost, and they might step on something “dirty (unholy)” things.
But when I went to shao-mu few years back, I wasn’t worry that whether I would see a ghost or not, but I was more worried about tigers being around, because my grandmother’s grave is located deep in a plam estate, and the elderly did warned us that might be tigers around the area.
So do you believe that there are ghost? Do you afraid of ghost?
The first time ghost come into my mind was in primary school, the toilet was in a very bad shape, dirty, no light. And so often the students will tell ghost stories that happened in the toilet.
Even though I don’t see one, I was afraid of ghost then. When I came home, and asked my father about ghosts - who and what are they.
My father told me that ghost is only in our mind - if we have no ghost in our mind, then we will never see one, but if we believe there are ghost, then we will see them very often. And later my father add “people is more dangerous than ghost, be afraid of human being but not ghost, ghost is created by human being.”
Of course that not easy for a kid who was under 12 to understand. I was so afraid to go to the toilet, even in board daylight, see? I am not afraid of the dirtiness, but of ghost, a thing that I have never seen before.
Things didn’t get better either when I went on to secondary school. Behind the school is the famous Chinese graveyard kong-dong-yi-shan 广东义山, and the toilet was at the back of the school. Even though the school and the graveyard was separated in a great distance by a kampung, it didn’t stop the students from passing ghost stories around.
As usual, the ghost story was about a lady in a white robe, with long hair, no legs, drifting in the toilet. I don’t know if the ghost got bored, or not, with the same outfit and script for so many years, but I am pretty bored. Maybe the ghost did get bored, and it just wanted to tell someone, but everyone who was so lucky to have seen her got frighten away. Maybe this is the ghost’s agony (not every ghost as lucky as the Xiao-qian 小倩 in The Chinese Ghost Story 倩女幽魂).
During the first year of my secondary school life, I joined the girl guides, and so happens that year, there was a campfire event held in our school. I needed to stay overnight in the school classroom with others. My classmates were so worried, and started telling me to be careful, watch out for anything suspicious, especially the white robe, long hair, drifting figure.
How lucky I was to have such caring classmate, told me to look up out for ghost. Anyway, I didn’t see one, maybe the ghost changed outfit or something, because I didn’t find anyone / anything fitting that description.
From then onwards, I never bothered about the ghost anymore, because during my secondary school, I had a much bigger, and real problem I needed to face. Who cares about the ghost when all I can see is red, the colour of my report card! *sigh* Maybe the red worked as a charm to keep the ghost away?!
Ghost has never been a big problem for me, because I have got so many other things that I was afraid of in the real live - afraid of money not enough, afraid of my career, afraid of interview, afraid of changing job, afraid I can never find a boyfriend and get marry, being label as lesbian and end my life in Kuen Cheng Old Folks Home 坤成姑婆院 (a place that me and few buddies conceptualized for our future, if we didn’t get marry in our old age).
Even though when I travelled to China, sleeping alone throughout the whole journey (21 days), I was never worried about waking up to find ghost standing in front of my bed, or to find my slippers turn to another way (some old folks tales about ghost and hotels and slippers I heard during my school days). Besides, I was so tired from ’sightseeing’, I would have slept through World War 3, and even if i saw a ghost, I would have been too blur to be frighten or noticed it. The only thing I was afraid of was I didn’t wake up on time, and the whole group have left without me.
After I got boyfriend, I was afraid he will leave me, and during the lovey dovey time, where got ghost?
Then after getting married and have kids, there are even more things I need to worry about. ghost? ah! only in the movies.
But some how when the girls about few months old, I did believed to what MIL and my mom said — may be there was a bed spirit 床头阿婆 playing with her, so interupt her sleep. So deperate for peaceful night, I listen to almost everything that can get Isabelle sleep peacefully, I got a “fu” for Isabelle, and she did sleep well, for few nights, then back to “normal” again. Only a year or two later I learnt that not all newborn will sleep like what we parents plan for them. Clever, thanks goodness the “fu” just for put underneath her bed, not burnt and drink it (anyway, if the “fu” need to burnt and let her drink I will never try, what happen the medium got sickness?).
Even though from time to time, there were a lot of real ghost stories being told, I was never convinced that it exist, because every ghost story I had listened to was told by “My friend’s friend saw one, really, no bluff”, but never “I saw one”. And when they say they saw one, it is merely “I think I saw one”. Come on, be brave, if you really saw one, then say it out loud, why be afraid about how others look / think at you? Have you ever played a game call “gossip”? few people siting around, and pass a message around, the message gets distorted after it coming back one round, so maybe it was a human being, but after “passing around” it became a ghost. Poor thing.
I often receive some forwarded mail regarding ghost stories too, and even with pictures! The ghost need to pick up their Photoshop skill, man.
Read till here, some of you might say “Twinsmom, don’t be so big mouth, may be there is one standing behind you watching you typing this.” yah, right, then the ghost’s English better be good, and do some correction for me. No ghost, but there is a genie behide me correcting my writing — Twinsdad.
But anyway ghost aside, I do believe there are some supernatural case, and I believe magnetic field theory, but I just can’t believe the white robe, long hair and drifting things.
If I am so unlucky to see one, may be I will tell it to clean the house, fold the laundry, iron the cloths, those are the things I worrying day in and out, instead of stand there and scream.

Yaloh, sometimes these people really 无中生有 nia. However, 宁可信其无…err, whats the 2nd half? I better believe it exists but it won’t create harm to us.
I never encounter any before, because my 阳气 too strong already. But not my friend who were patroling the school during our camp. Me and him were walking past the school library at 2AM, and he saw one inside the library on the desk, but I didn’t. He just pulled me walk faster and thats it.
Shiau Lin, don’t want to tell them the Gajah Berang ghost story meh?

原來係外面D街燈光射入閃吓閃吓入來、再加其他房里的声音啦(funace, fridge or clock..)furniture 影子等等做成幻想、like Monster.Inn 套戲咁D Babu 由closet走出来.我解釋仔仔聽一下此事，依家仔仔一驚就会问係咪有嘢扮出来嚇人….

怎么这么巧， 华校都建在义山附近？我的中小学都能看到义山咧… 所以鬼故事蛮多咯。还记得中学时有一次搞到校长召全体学生到礼堂训话，叫我们不要乱乱跟媒体讲些没有根据的故事（因为不知谁酱三八／无聊去跟本地一家报刊爆料，搞到出在报纸副刊）:lol:

i will more convince if you tell me some alien arrived at Earth, in order not to scare the human being, they make themselve like one..BUT too bad, keep missing something, head lah,nose lah, leg lah, not walking but floating around, no fashion sense but keep getting those white cloth from baby napkin hanging outside the house…kekekekeke

nowadays… humans really do more harm to other humans compared to ghost!!

Yeah I tot u tell ghost story also. In primary school, also there were some students spreading rumors that our toilets got ghost. I see more shit than ghost in there.
I have very small liver, cannot watch horror movie.

Oh, I not only don’t watch horror movie, I don’t watch thriller too, last time watch “the Heat” in cinema, till the almost ending, I had to came out from the theater to breath.
ghost ah?? primary school time I also heard a lot of ghost story, in fact in the toilet I feel very eery everytime I went there. Ghost exist or not?? Don’t know lah. You don’t disturb them , they don’t disturb you loh.

There’s spirits every where.. I believe.. good and bad.
Last year, FIL and hubby went to the cemetary for qingming.. came home immediately carry Zara w/out ‘cleaning’ themselves first. Zara cried and cried and cried later that evening.. Couldn’t pacify her in any way. So I suspect, they brought back some bad spirits..
I also felt a spirit before standing right in front of me watching over me in a hotel room (when I was alone on biz trip).. I said my prayers and just continued sleeping.. And didn’t feel threatened for the rest of the 5days I was there..

last time when my Late FIL passed away, we all gather in BIL’s house for the funeral, for two nights, I afraid the girls might get this kind of feelign too, but in the end I too tire to notice they got any particular different from normal :P.
wahahaha….. erm basically i dun believe ghost this kind of things…
but i very scare of casket… whenever i see it..i will have sleepless nite..!! that’s y everytime i attend funeral, after that i will restless… my mind keep imagine something that might not happen…
and i also dun dare to see mirror… until now, stil scare…
and…if u come to my house, sure u will not see any whole body mirror is in my house…!! the biggest mirror is in my mom room… wahahah….. that 1 just half body only….
everytime daddy said i no “dan”…i have no idea why i scare..but i dun believe in it wor….wahahah…
summore the record i break is, mummy and daddy not in, only korkor and me..at nite, korkor go out..leave me alone at home… so i go to bed…off all the light at the living room… and suddenly i want to go to toilet… wanna pee… scare wor… so how… call korkor faster come back and “rescue” me… wahhaha… after my rotehr come back..he turn on the light for me, and i run to toilet….
keep on laughing….. wahhaha..

If there is one, pls don’t come can kacau me, I’ll faint! Never seen ghost, but when I went camping during school days, some of my friends said they saw or felt it, but I didn’t feel anything. Luckily they only tell me after the camp, if not I’ll surely ask my dad to pick me up ASAP!

100% agreed with Twinsmom’s Dad way of thinking. We seldom or never see ghost at all but we always see bad people around us.In everyday news,beside accident someone is only killed by Human but not ghost.If you claimed your car stolen by Ghost, Insurance Agent will not pay you.Security Alarm in the bank is for human not Ghost.
So, better be carefull to human (bad people) rather than others. Hm…Does bad people also just in our mind? haha.
Anyway, I do believe in Sorcery, Witchcraft or Black Art and Mysticism. Only those skill hardly find in this generation, but you still can find it at the Kampung in Indonesia. There is a skill “Susuk”. Once you let the expert susuk you, David Beckham also can fall in love to you. Ripley’s Believe it or Not?…

About the Sorcery, Witchcraft or Black Art and Mysticism, I believe it exist with good purpose (healing), but being manipulated but twisted mind and become “dark” stuff.
i afraid of ghost… especially when i go stay in hotel… hardly sleep at night… will worry… n to use the hotel toilet…

To add to Zara’s mama’s comment :- once I brought Ziheng to a kind of ritual for the dead elderly “gong de”.
He came back also cried for a few days, even tho his colicky period was over.
So, children wise, better let them stay away. They cannot take that kind of yin qi.

well i do believe that there are ghosts, wondering spirits who have not finished what they are supposed to do on earth. My philosophy is that they can stick around as slong as they dont butt into my business and vice versa and respect each other’s space. my mom actually saw a ‘pontianak’ when she was at a hotel at Hong Kong. She woke up to a sound for rustling of a plastic bag and when she opened her eyes, she saw a ghosts at the corner of her hotel room.

Eeeeee, don’t talk of ghosts leh. I’m oso very sked sked one. I oso have a very tiny weeny gall bladder. Dare not watch ghost movies and hear ghost stories esp. at nite. Whole nite can have nightmares liao.
My colleague has this ‘yum yeong’ eyes and told me she can see ‘those things’ and I always warn her NOT to tell me when she happens to see one around me!

我记得小学时，有一口井被封着，可想象那时有多少的鬼故事。
还有小学的大草场的不懂第几棵树传说埋着死人。
又说学校的地以前是埋葬日本人杀死的人。
都是小学的故事。那时候笨蛋，全部相信，怕得要死。呵呵。
但我其实很怕鬼，去酒店不可能一个人睡，和朋友一起进厕所（包括冲凉）。

erm…. i need time to recover my scareness… i use around 1 year not to scare at night.. now i’m not scare anymore… but last year attend my fren’s funeral, scare again… erm..i take few months to recover also… after read shiaulin blog, i scare again!!! SHIAULIN…… tonite i will go find u… kekeke…
